    Article in Telegraph.

Roy Hodgson, the England Manager, is one of the most civilised people in football – a cultured honest man who has mastered many languages than most of us have heard. At half-time in Englands game against Poland he launched into a long winded joke about astronaughts and monkeys, in order to convey to his players that they should pass more to Andros Townsend whom happens to be of mixed race. The FA is being urged to investigate these remarks by anit-racism campaigners even though the players insist no offence was meant or taken.

The job of England manager is thankless enough, given the weight of expectation. The fact that Mr Hodgson chose his words poorly should not become an excuse for a politically correct witch-hunt.
